Course overview

This programme combines theoretical learning with an interactive 3D exploration of the Peirce–Smith Converter, bringing key metallurgical processes to life. Participants will examine copper resources, production technologies, market dynamics, by-products, emissions, and sustainability challenges to develop a holistic understanding of the industry.

What you will learn:

  • Main stages of the copper value chain, from mining and beneficiation to refining, recycling, and end use.
  • Primary and secondary copper resources and their processing and recycling routes.
  • Pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgical principles, with a focus on the Peirce–Smith converting process.
  • Components, operation, and process stages of the Peirce–Smith Converter through interactive 3D exploration.
  • Environmental, sustainability, ESG, production, and market considerations across the copper value chain.
