Course overview

This course explores key theories and approaches to sense-making, drawing on the work of Snowden, Weick, Dervin, and Klein to examine how people interpret experiences and navigate uncertainty. Through practical exercises, participants will learn to question their assumptions, recognise patterns and overlooked signals, and develop richer interpretations of complex situations.

What you will learn:

  • Foundations of sense-making as an evolving, interpretative process.
  • Key sense-making theories and the similarities and differences between major approaches.
  • Methods for interpreting incomplete, ambiguous, and changing information.
  • Practical tools for exploring multiple perspectives and alternative explanations.
  • Techniques for recognising assumptions, patterns, outliers, and blind spots.
